The five fitness principles described below are incorporated into each custom exercise program with emphasis placed on the principles that best correlate to the clients’ goals. Each principle contributes an essential element, which work together to produce maximum results, no matter the fitness goal.
1. Strengthen Muscles with Resistance
Have you ever wished to lose weight in your sleep? The fact is, the more muscle tissue a person has, the higher their metabolism, even when sleeping. While at rest, the body is still burning calories, but will burn even more calories if muscle mass increases. Utilizing resistance training techniques with one’s own body weight, resistance cables, machines, or free weights to tone or strengthen muscles has been the cornerstone of JD’s exercise philosophy to looking and feeling better! In addition, it is common for confidence levels to increase, while stress levels decrease, with a properly planned strength training program.
2. Improve Endurance with Cardio
Accomplishing everyday activities such as walking, running, or going up flights of stairs becomes easier with regular endurance training. The heart becomes stronger and the lung’s ability to carry more oxygen increase. Typically, many individuals view cardio training as a method to lose body fat, but one can expect much more, including feeling more energetic throughout the day and reducing the risk of some diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Long distance walks, jogs, sprints, dancing, swimming, and riding a bike are all great activities (just to name a few!) to include in a cardio training program.
3. Gain Flexibility through Stretching
Regardless of an individual’s goals, stretching conducted on a regular basis provides several benefits that tie in with strength training and endurance training. With regular stretching comes an increase in range of motion and improved blood flow which leads to the ability to not only accomplish other fitness goals with greater ease, but everyday activities with reduced pain, that many may take for granted.
4. Eat Healthy with Proper Nutrition
The secret with nutrition is following a diet which includes a bounty of fruits and vegetables, as well as balanced proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. The purpose of food is to fuel the body for daily activities and provide nutrients for optimal metabolism, proper immune function, and muscle growth and repair. Eating healthy can aid in safe and effective weight loss, increase energy, and may reduce the risk of certain cancers, heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.
5. Get Plenty of Rest
A critical aspect of any exercise program is to ensure one receives proper rest to aid in the recovery process after a workout session. Rest can be accomplished by taking a day off from a regular exercise routine and making sure adequate sleep in achieved on a daily basis. The amount of rest required is different for everyone and also depends on the intensity level of the exercise program.
